Reading

Essential Question this week- How do landmarks help us understand our country's story?

Last week we read the stories, "A Natural Beauty" and "A Mountain of History".  These are Expository texts which means that it gives the reader facts and information about a social studies topic.  It also includes features such as photographs, captions, sidebars, and maps.
Within these stories we learned interesting facts about many monuments and landmarks that we find in the United States and what they mean to our country and how they helped to form our country's story.  We worked on Main idea and details within the texts. We also worked on simple and compound sentences.

This week we are working out of our Storyworks magazine.

Pumpkin Book Reports This year we will be doing our Pumpkin Book reports again. A packet came home on Monday.  Please read through it with your child.
Real pumpkins may be used, but absolutely NO CARVING please.

Math This week we will begin Topic 4 We have been learning about how division works and working with dividing numbers by using multiplication to help us.  Example- what times 4 equals 28.
