Language Arts- This week we will be reading some interesting stories with the Essential question, What ideas can we get from nature? We will read stories that are Expository Texts, which is a piece of writing that has a purpose to inform the readers about something. We will read about the many things within nature that scientists have observed and have come up with useful ideas from. For example, a cane for blind people that mimics the way that a bat finds his way around in nature. We will continue to work on main idea and details, root words, and summarizing the stories.
Math- We just wrapped up Topic 8 in math on Wednesday. Topic 9 focuses on adding and subtracting three digit numbers with and without regrouping. The test will be in the next week or week and a half. Topic 10 will run a little differently. Topic 10 focuses on Multiplying by multiples of 10. We incorporated a lot of this when we had the topic on multiplication earlier this year so this is much like a review.
This Thursday we will be taking MAPS testing on Reading. Kids have unlimited time to take this test.
Report cards will be electronically sent home tomorrow through email.
Valentine's Day- Kids are permitted to send in Valentine's this year, but they have to be at school by the 8th. The whole school will hold their Valentine's celebration on the 11th. I will send home more information this week on it as well as discuss it with kids. Kids are not to bring their own boxes/bags this year. We will be decorating a bag at school instead. All cards will be sent home instead of going through them at school.
