Language Arts- This week we read "The Long Road to Oregon", "Riding the Rails", and "Discovering Life Long Ago".  Our essential question was, How is each event in history unique?  We read  stories that were an Expository Text which is a piece of writing that has a purpose to inform the readers about something.  We had fun reading about history and I had a blast from the past with the Oregon Trail game we played to match.  This week we also worked on summarizing, suffixes, diphthongs, and combining sentences with verbs.  This next week will be our end of the unit review week so we will not be having a normal story.  This week we also will not be having a spelling list because of the end of unit.

Math- This week we worked on Topic 10 on using properties to multiply.  This also is a review type topic so we will not be completing every lesson.  Scales were sent home at the beginning of the week along with Topic 11's scale.  Both of the topics will be short and there will be no test over them.  We will begin Topic 12 on Monday, February 6th and be back to a more normal routine.
