Language Arts- This week we have been reading some interesting stories with the Essential question, What ideas can we get from nature?  We read  stories that were an Expository Text which is a piece of writing that has a purpose to inform the readers about something.  We read about the many things within nature that scientists have observed and have come up with useful ideas from.  For example, a cane for blind people that mimics the way that a bat finds his way around in nature.  The kids really enjoyed reading about all of these discoveries and inventions. We worked on main idea and details, root words, and summarizing the stories.  We also have been working on future-tense verbs and we are continuing to work on writing an opinion letter.

Math- This week we will wrap up Topic 9, fluently adding and subtracting within 1,000.   Our test for this topic will be this Tuesday and the homework review will be due that day as well.  We will be skipping many of the sections since they are review. The test will also be simplified since as a result.  I will be offering tutoring, if needed, on Monday morning if anyone is in need of extra help.   On Wednesday we will be introducing Topic 10 on using properties to multiply.  This also is a review type topic so we will not be completing every lesson.  I will send home our scales on Wednesday so you can get an overview of what your children will be working on.

Social Studies-We are back in our homerooms for Social Studies this week.  Over the next 6 weeks we will be learning about Economics.

I have been diligently working on report cards all week and they will be coming home on Wednesday in their Wednesday folder.  Please sign the envelop and return it the next day.  You keep the card.

Have a great weekend.
