Language Arts-
We have wrapped up our Start Smart from the Wonders reading program.
This week we read another story about Meerkats that was non-fiction and
based on the author's opinion backed by evidence that supported it. We
spent a lot of time pulling evidence from the story that supported
the author and wrote and piece on the evidence that we found within the
story. We also wrote a summary of the story with partners and shared
them with the class. Next week we will be beginning unit 1 which will encompass
writing, spelling, close reading exercises and a story from the anthology. You
can now access these stories from the Wonders site. Your child has their
password located in there planner and also on the magnet I gave you at Open
House.
Math- We
have finished Topic 1, Understanding Multiplication and Division, and will
be reviewing this Tuesday and Wednesday in preparation for the test on
Thursday. We have been practicing different strategies to solve
multiplication problems.
Social Studies- We
are learning about government and learning what the
social and political responsibilities of a citizen are. We will
continue this discussion next week.
This week we took our first round of MAPS testing
for the year. Everybody did very well despite the heat in the classroom.
We are fortunate to have powerful fans in our room to keep the heat from
getting overwhelming, but I encourage you to send in water bottles with
your children until the heat subsides.
Please remember that there is no school on Monday
in observation of Labor Day. Have a wonderful, long weekend.
