Language Arts-  We are still working on Little House on the Prairie and we also have been reading Sarah, Plain and Tall. Our quiz over Little House will be on Wednesday this week. We also will be learning about irregular verbs as a follow-up to learning about main and helping verbs the last couple weeks. 

Math-  We wrapped up Topic 9 and on Friday we looked over and practiced important concepts from Topic 10.  We will be working on the concepts from 10 during morning routine, but moving onto 11 tomorrow.  Topic 11 is very short, and all about 2-step word problems.  We will be doing a lot of this problem solving in class and we will not be taking a test over this topic.  We will be doing a lot of hands-on work to cover this concept.  Next week we will be getting back into our normal math groove and beginning topic 12 over Fractions.  

Social Studies-We have been having fun in social studies working on Economics and coming up with a new product and specs on them.  We will present them to the class this week in a sort of Shark Tank feel.  

Writing- we have been working on writing opinion pieces on various topics.

Upcoming events and news...

 -This week is Jump Rope for Heart.  Third grade will be jumping on Thursday, @10:30. Please have donations in by then.

*-Our Valentine's Party will be this Friday afternoon.  Children will be allowed to bring in Valentine's for others.  Also, They can bring in a bag or box that they make at home to decorate.  We have 20 children in our class.  We have 9 girls and 11 boys.

-There is no school next Monday, February 15.

-Fancy Dress day is February 19, more information to follow.

-Our Field Trip to the Science Center is Tuesday, February 23rd.  Please have form and money is this week.  Also there is still a volunteer spot available for this field trip.  The cost is the same for parent volunteers as for the students.  

-Cosi will be Friday, February 26th.

-Library Field Trip is Monday, February 23rd in the afternoon.  Topic is rocks.
