This week in Language Arts we began to read about the Woolly Mammoth.  This is a nonfiction text and was full of wonderful facts from the time period that they were around.  Our test over this story will be this Wednesday.  After the story we will work out of our class magazine we subscribe to called, Storyworks.  We will continue this into next week as well.  We are continuing to work on Adjectives in class and the children had to create a list of adjective, or character traits, that best fit them.  We will continue to work on different types of Adjectives this week.
In Social Studies we will be wrapping up our unit by having a class trial.  Each child will get a part in the trial and we will make a decision about which side of the case is the winner.  Be sure to ask your child for all the details.
It seems math is the topic of discussion with this new program.  Last year at this time we were working on adding 3 or more numbers and this year we are deep into multiplication and as I look ahead to next week's lessons, multiplying 3 numbers.  Since the topics have gotten harder and require more time to comprehend, I have slowed the program down and have been trying to keep the pace of the students rather than the program. I have been pulling groups in the morning and also at the end of math to do review and detaching.  Our student teacher will be beginning an additional math group on Thursday's and Friday's to do review as well as front loading of new topics that are coming up.  We have started a math notebook and will continue to use these during class time as well as during tests.  Please be sure to have your children practice their math facts at home each night focusing on 3's, 4's, 6's, 7's, and 8's.
Picture day is tomorrow and Book Fair is Friday.  Also, please sign-up for a conference if you have not already.  There will be no school on Monday, October 5th since there will be conferences all day.

We have been lucky enough to get a new online resource called Raz-kids.  It is based on your children's reading levels.  I sent home a card and letter last week with information on how to get on and you can also access the site from our resource and website page on this blog.  Let me know if you have any questions about the site. There password s their student numbers.  We have been working on them at school so they should be able to figure out how to get on at home.
