Language Arts- This coming week we read the stories, "Gray Wolf! Red Fox!", Amazing Wildlife of the Mojave", and Little Half Chick. We compared and contrasted and used sentence clues to figure out meanings of vocabulary words.

Social Studies- This week we continued to learn about how our government works. Our focus was the three branches of our government.

Math- The past couple weeks we have been working on fractions within topic 12.  We are currently focusing on placing fractions on a number line and will be moving into plotting them on a number line.  We will be finishing up this topic and reviewing on Monday and then taking a test over topic 12 on Tuesday.

A Look Ahead

Our field trip to Carlisle Reservation is This Wednesday, March 1st.  The field trip is mostly outdoors so please have your child dress according to the weather. Boots are probably best since we will be out on trails. Kids will need a lunch packed in a disposable bag with their name on it.  No containers may be sent in.

On a side note, the choir festival is the same day. When we arrive back at school, if your child is in choir, they will be walking over to the high school shortly after. If they want to change out of their boots, they are more than welcome to keep their boots at school overnight so they don’t have to carry them over.

Next week we will celebrate Read Across America Week

Monday- Wear A Word

Tuesday Favorite Book Character

Wednesday- Wacky Wednesday

Thursday- Dr. Seuss Day

Friday-Animal Day

A more detailed list was sent home on Thursday.

*** Stay tuned to a fun, school-wide, activity coming at the end of next week!

Please see the note below from Mrs. Cote…

Hello,

This week in Art, I introduced surrealism.  Students are going to be creating their own surreal landscapes.  I am asking students to bring in any magazine pictures or photographs they could incorporate into their landscape pictures. They can even print specific pictures from the computer.

Some ideas include but are not limited to: pictures of themselves, food items, candy, animals, plants, random objects, flowers; really anything will work! We talked this over in class so they should have a good idea of what they are looking for.

Students can begin bringing these items in for their next Art class. They can also bring in magazines and look through them in class for the pictures. I will have some extra for students who are not able to do so.

Thank you so much for your help,

Laura Cote
