Language ArtsThis week's stories will focus on the essential question- How is each event in history unique? This week we will read stories having to do with this essential question.  We will focus on the following...
-Strategy: Summarizing
-Skill: Sequencing
-Building vocabulary
-Phonics- prefixes

Our stories this week are about the Oregon Trail as well as the Transcontinental Railroad.  We will learn many interesting facts about them and also get to play the Oregon Trail game on our Chromebooks that will help the kids get an idea of what the 5 month long journey was all about.
Next week is our review week so there will not be any vocabulary lists coming home on Friday.

Math- This week we will review Topic 8, on using strategies and Properties to add and subtract, including rounding. Our test will be Tuesday, January 24th.

Science- We will continue learning about the Earth and its resources through the different types of rocks there are and how they are formed. We will be taking a field trip to the library on Tuesday, February 7 at 1:00. I will be sending out a volunteer sign-up for a couple volunteers soon.

See below for information for Literacy night this Thursday!

Literacy Night

Jan. 26, 2023

5:00-6:30 pm

We would like to invite all Erieview families to our Literacy Night on 1/26/23. It will be an evening filled with fun and learning focused on literature and literacy skills.  We will open the doors at 5:00.  We are requesting, if at all possible, that families with the last names beginning with A-L attend beginning at 5:00.  If your last name begins with M-Z please join us at 5:45.  It is an “open house” concept with 8 different grade appropriate stations.  There are activities for all grade levels kindergarten-fourth grade!  The entrance to the event will be at the west side of the building.  (3rd and 4th grade hallway)   Parking is available to the north and south of the building, at the Avon Lake Public Library, and at the church parking lot to the south of the school’s main entrance.  Please join us!

A couple notes from the office...

This year, we are passing out Valentine’s on Tuesday, Feb 14th. Children may bring in a home decorated box. I will send home information on this closer to the day.

Per district policy, your child may bring in small cards to pass to classmates. Little non-edible items or candy are allowed to be attached to the cards.  Any treat sent in must be store bought prepackaged and in original packaging. All cards, candy and treats received will come home on Tuesday.

Teacher requested conferences will be held on 2/16/23 from 4:00-8:00 pm.  I will reach out to you by 2/2/23 if a conference is deemed necessary at this time. If you have not been contacted by 2/2/23, you will have the opportunity to conference with me on our full conference day of March 10th from 8:00-4:00.  We will schedule March conferences via PTCFast, as in the past.
