We had a great start to our school year! 

Language Arts- This week began our first week into our regular language arts program.  We began our week reading a story called, "Bruno's New Home", which is a Fantasy.  This story focused on the essential question, "what can stories teach you?  In this story Bear was taught the important lesson that good friends can come in small packages, basically don't judge a book by it's cover.  We worked on locating text evidence, learned new vocabulary, talked about character traits and learned about visualizing a story.  This week we will close read the story, "Wolf"  and "Jennie and the Wolf" and continue to work with the same essential question and similar skills including the same vocabulary.
Writing- Each Monday we will be journaling about our weekend.  We will also be writing throughout the week with our Wonders program.  Next we will be beginning our first writing project, which will result in writing a friendly letter. 

Math- We have begun Topic 1 in math- Understanding Multiplication and Division. This week we will take our first test over topic 1. We have been practicing different strategies to solve multiplication problems. We will be reviewing for the test Wednesday and Thursday and the test will be on Friday.  

Social Studies- We will be beginning our look into Avon Lake History and working with timelines.  

This week we took our first round of Reading MAPS testing for the year.  Everybody worked hard.  

Please look at your child's planner each night.  Also, please be sure to look through your child's  Friday Folder each Friday. Inside are important papers for the week as well returned work.  Each Friday I will also send home their next weeks spelling list.  Please make sure they practice throughout the week and turn in the worksheet by Thursday.  Extra homework papers can be found on our class blog.  This week's words are for Unit 1 Week 1. You can also find them by logging into their Wonders account and clicking the tab at the top of the page called "School to home".

Throughout the year if they need to log into any of their accounts...Raz-Kids, Powerschool, X-traMath, Wonders; their passwords will be located on the inside cover of their planner.
