Language ArtsEssential Question this week How do people figure things out?
This week we are reading poems that have to do with this essential question.  We are also exploring the different types of poems we come across and certain elements that many poems have.  We have also been focusing on figuring out the Author's point of view for each poem.   Today we worked with alliteration and created our own poems that focused on this.  We have also been learning about similes and possessive nouns.  Our spelling words this week contain 1 or more digraph within them.  A digraph is when 2 or more letters come together to create 1 sounds, for example the "sh" in ship.  Next week we come to the end of unit 2 so the week will focus on reviews and we will also be doing a reader's theater.

Math- This week we wrapped up Topic 6, on Connecting Area to Multiplication and Addition.  We have been working on answering the question, How can area be measured and found? Our vocabulary for this topic is area, unit square, square unit, and estimate.  Our test for this topic will be this Thursday and the homework review will be due that day as well.  On Friday through next week we will doing a review of the skills we have learned thus far and moving onto topic 7 on the 9th.

Social Studies-Our students have begun to switch to Mr. Provenza's class for Social Studies for the next 6 weeks.  During the six week's with him they will be learning about the history of Avon Lake.
