Weekly News 1/16/12

I hope that everyone had a wonderful MLK day today and were able to enjoy some of the snow this weekend before it all melted. We built a snowman this morning and it already fell down with the rain. I can't believe it is January!

We had a nice week last week. We are continuing to work through the uppercase letters and are also reviewing how lowercase letters are written...we need a little brushing up on some of these. We are still working on addition in math and beginning to learn about pushes and pulls in science.
We wrote a mini journal this week about snow and also wrote a sentence about Martin Luther King.
We read a story about MLK this week and discussed how he, and others, were once treated. We did a little activity to follow-up on this and then brainstormed all the great things MLK did. I don't think I have ever had a class so involved in the discussion. It was very inspiring to see how his life could even touch a Kindergartner.
In your child's school folder Friday I sent home a conference form for February. You will see that I have attached an additional form that pertains to our class only. On our conference date, February 8th, I will be beginning our conferences early in the morning and going through the night. Your children will still have their normal school day, but will have a substitute. This is to ensure that everyone can have a conference, I am only scheduled, through the district, for one night of conferences, so although I can make arrangements to have conferences before or after your child's school day I am unable to do conferences other days past 12. We can also arrange for phone conferences if needed. Please let me know of any questions you have about this.

Please remember that this is a short wee for your children since teachers have an in-service that they have to attend on Friday.
