Weekly News 12/18/11

We have had a busy couple weeks getting ready for the Winter concert, creating Christmas books, completing Gingerbread Math, and learning about the different holidays that are celebrated in other cultures. We have finished our lowercase letters in Fundations and have been practicing forming and writing new words. We have also been working on beginning and ending sounds. After break we will be starting on the Uppercase letter. This is fast paced!
We finished working on our Gingerbread math booklets and you will see them come home Tuesday. Papers were not sent home Friday since this week is so short. This past week we did send home a Christmas tree that the children made. This was a math lesson on comparing lengths. We completed it step by step and at the end they discovered it made a Christmas tree.
This week is only two days long. Monday's main event will be our holiday party where we decorate gingerbread houses. Thank you to all who sent in the materials I assigned you. The children will have so much fun with these.
Tuesday will be our school-wide Polar Express Day. The children will be permitted to come to school in their pajamas and will get a ticket to enter the building as in the movie, "Polar Express". The children will then watch this movie with our class.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday break.
