Weekly News 10/9/11

This past week we focused on the letters 'o' and 'g'. Vowel sounds are difficult for many Kindergartners so please be sure to review them daily. We continued to practice our numbers and counting this week as well as sorting, graphing, and counting down. We completed several activities where we incorporated spiders, which included an interactive spider story where the children were given a spider to help act out the book. Ask your children to read the book with you, they loved working on it at school. Another book that came home with your children on Friday is "I Like", which is one of our readers that introduces the word, 'to'. Please make sure to practice the flashcards with your children daily. This weeks new word will be 'am'.
We completed our unit on the five senses this week. We had fun exploring the different types of taste that our tongues recognize...sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. Sour seemed to be the class favorite.
This week coming up we will recognize Columbus Day and on Tuesday we will have a visit from the fire department for fire safety week. We also will be continuing to prepare for Halloween. Please remember that there is no school Friday.
