This past week we began our unit on trees. We discussed the parts of a tree and how important they are. We will continue this for the next couple weeks in preparation for our field to the library the second week of November. Information and permission forms will be coming home soon. When they are sent home please indicate whether or not you would like to attend. If I have more volunteers than needed, I will randomly choose. I will send out an email letting you know if you have been chosen.
In Fundations we have been continuing on the same track of learning our lowercase letters. A few sounds I would like practiced at home are the vowels, we learn short vowel sounds, the letter c and g... we learn the hard sounds of these two letters as in the words cat and game. Many of the children are getting confused thinking they are the soft sounds that you would hear at the beginnings of centipede and germ. We are nearing the end of the quarter so we will be assessing the children starting this week. These assessments, paired with what I see in class, will produce their marks on their upcoming report cards. Also, please make sure that you are continuing to practice their flashcards that have been sent home periodically throughout the year so far.
We have been breaking into groups 1-2 times a week for language arts. This is so I can give more focused individual instruction to each child. We practice our letter sounds, sight words, and beginning writing skills in these group times, depending on your child's readiness.
I will be out Monday, but plan on being back on Tuesday. Have a great week!
